The first rocks in the weeklong journey toward determining Team USA began today at the Resch Olympic Ice Pavilion at the Cornerstone Community Ice Center in Green Bay, Wis., as the 2013 USA Curling National Championships presented by Brooms Up Curling Supplies got underway.

Several skips making their debuts put notches in the win column as the women's draw wrapped up this evening.

2006 Olympian and two-time U.S. junior champion Courtney George (Duluth, Minn.) led her team to a 10-3 victory over Team Anderson, led by 17-year-old Sarah Anderson (Broomall, Pa.).

"We made a lot of shots when it mattered," said George, who has competed in eight national championships, but is making her skipping debut here in Green Bay. "It helps when your teammates are shooting so well in front of you."

Despite a brief hiatus in action today, four teams have punched tickets to the playoffs at the 2013 USA Curling Junior National Championships in Wayland, Mass.

Power was cut at the Broomstones Curling Club as the first few rocks were thrown during the 12 p.m. draw due to a downed tree as a result of a wind storm hampering the Boston area. Power was restored two hours later and the women's round was pushed back to 4 p.m. All upcoming rounds will be pushed into the next draw time (i.e., the 4 p.m. round today will be played at 8 p.m.). If two rounds of tiebreaker games are needed on Friday, the Page playoffs could be moved into Saturday making for a very busy final day of competition for the teams qualified for the playoffs.
