USA's Dropkin to play for bronze at WYOG
Dropkin (Southborough, Mass.) and Russian teammate Marina Verenich of Russia lost, 7-3, to Germany's Nicole Muskatewitz and Switzerland's Michael Brunner at the Innsbruck Exhibition Centre Curling Hall. "I was feeling pretty confident coming in. I thought we were going to give them a good game," Dropkin said after the loss. "They made a lot of their shots, but we didn't make many of ours. They had a good game and congrats to them."
Team RUS/USA will now battle Japan's Mako Tamakuma and Korea's Minhyeon Yoo for the bronze medal at 1 p.m. today. The gold-medal game between Brunner and Muskatewitz and Korea's Eunbi Kim and Norway's Martin Sesaker also is set for 1 today followed by the medals ceremony for both the mixed team competition and the mixed doubles. The mixed team medals ceremony, originally scheduled for Thursday night, was cancelled due to the discovery of a WWII aerial bomb at a construction site near the medals plaza. All medals will be awarded at the venue today.
