USA picks up two wins as WYOG begins in Austria

January 14, 2012
USA's Korey Dropkin (Southborough, Mass.) led the Americans to two victories as action at the inaugural 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games got underway today at the Innsbruck Exhibition Center.

Dropkin and his team of Sarah Anderson (Broomall, Pa.), Thomas Howell (Brick, N.J.) and Taylor Anderson (Broomall, Pa.) defeated Estonia's Robert-Kent Paell rink, 10-1, in the opening action at the venue. In the evening draw, the Americans defeated New Zealand's Luke Steele rink, 10-2.

The first draw of the competition was re-scheduled due to an electrical issue during the night which caused some melting of the ice. Technicians have fixed the problem and that first session will take place on Tuesday at 4 p.m. instead.
