USA falls to Germany in 2012 Men's World Championship first round

March 31, 2012
After jumping out to an early lead in their debut at the 2012 World Men's Championship, Heath McCormick and Team USA fizzled in the second half to allow John Jahr's Germany rink to steal the final three ends and an 8-6 win this afternoon at St. Jakobshalle.

"It's very disappointing after the start we got off to, but what can you do?" said McCormick, 35, who is playing in his first world championship. "We just didn't play well in the second half. I missed a couple big shots. And, then, obviously we're tight on time and that didn't help."

McCormick (Sarnia, Ontario) and teammates Bill Stopera (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), Martin Sather (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Dean Gemmell (Short Hills, N.J.) held a 5-1 lead after a pivotal steal early on but Germany grabbed control in the second half.
