Team World widens lead at Cup

January 14, 2012
Team World widened its lead by picking up 34 points this afternoon in the Skins "A" competitions at the 2012 World Financial Group Continental Cup of Curling. USA's Patti Lank and Pete Fenson rinks both participated in the "A" skins but neither side dominated here at the Langley Events Centre. Team World extended its lead over North America 100-68. The first team to 201 points is declared the Cup champion.

In skins competition, teams must score a minimum of two points per end to grab a skin. If they don't, they lose the points and lose the hammer. If the team with the hammer scores just a single point, they lose the hammer and the skin carries over to the next end with the value thus increasing as well. Also, points accumulate throughout the match, which makes the final end even more critical. That was prevalent today for the American teams as both Fenson and Lank had the final stone going into the last end with a chance to earn the six-point skin and split the available 20 points.
