Playoff spots still up for grabs at Mixed Championship

March 21, 2013
Washington's Lyle Sieg rink sits alone at the top of the standings at the 2013 USA Curling Mixed National Championship in Willmar, Minn.

Sieg (Tacoma, Wash.) and teammates Miyo Konno (Monroe, Wash.), Steve Lundeen (Seattle) and Jennifer Westhagen (Seattle) are seeking their first mixed title to add to the plethora of past titles won by the Washington region. The team took one step closer to qualifying for the playoffs with a 10-3 win over Connecticut's Derek Surka rink yesterday to improve to 6-1. The loss puts Surka (New Haven, Conn.) and teammates Charrissa Lin (New Haven, Conn.), Nate Clark (Nashua, N.H.) and Rebecca Andrew (Henrietta, N.Y.) in second place with a 5-2 record. Surka's team trailed throughout the first half of the match and gave up a late steal in the loss to Washington.
