Grafton set to host curling's team selection event for Winter Youth Olympic Games
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - Nine teams of young athletes will compete to represent the U.S. at the inaugural 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games later this month at the Grafton Curling Club in Grafton, N.D.
The aim of the Youth Olympic Games is to bring the Olympic ideals closer to young people around the world. The first Summer Youth Olympic Games took place in 2010 in Singapore and now Innsbruck, Austria, will host the winter version on Jan. 13-22. The curling competition will consist of mixed curling (two males, two females) as well as international mixed doubles. The playdown event to select the U.S. curlers will take place Nov. 17-20. The competition format will be a round robin with the top team being nominated to the U.S. Olympic Committee to become members of Team USA in Austria.
