France turns back USA

April 1, 2012
It was a tale of two halves this morning for Team USA at the 2012 Men's World Championship as the American men fell to France's Tom Dufour rink, 8-6, at St. Jakobshalle.

Much like yesterday's match with Germany, McCormick (Sarnia, Ontario) and teammates Bill Stopera (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), Martin Sather (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Dean Gemmell (Short Hills, N.J.) held a comfortable lead early but couldn't finish out the game in the second half.

"We need to figure out how to play two halves of a game. Our confidence is fine, but we need to execute more shots," said Stopera, 43, who is playing in his first world championship. The loss drops the U.S. to 0-2 in the 11-game round robin standings. "We have nine more games to figure it out, and hopefully we can do that."
