Canada outlasts USA

April 1, 2012
Team USA came up a rock short in its quest to get in the win column as Canada held on for an 8-7 win tonight at the 2012 Men's World Championship at St. Jakobshalle.

McCormick (Sarnia, Ontario) and teammates Bill Stopera (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), Martin Sather (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Dean Gemmell (Short Hills, N.J.) took three-time world champion Glenn Howard to the final stone of the 10th end and forced the veteran skip to earn the victory to remain undefeated. "Heath made a bunch of huge shots – if he misses any one of those, it’s going to be a blow-out. But it was a great game and kudos to Team USA," Howard said. The loss drops Team USA to 0-3 in the 11-game round robin.

"We're only three down right now so we just need to put a streak together and get back into it," said Sather, 28, who represented the U.S. at the 2002 World Junior Championships.
