Jon Mielke (Bismarck, N.D.) is the 40th individual and fourth from North Dakota to be inducted into the United States Curling Association (USCA) Hall of Fame.
Nominees can be nominated in three key areas: builder, curler and curler/builder. The USCA Hall of Fame defines a builder of the sport as an individual who has made a major contribution toward the promotion, development and advancement of curling in the United States. Mielke's nomination was put forth to the USCA for consideration by the North Dakota Curling Association. Mielke's induction in the builder category was approved by the USCA Board of Directors at the recent fall board meeting in Bloomington, Minn. Mielke's induction ceremony is tentatively scheduled to take place during the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling, set for Nov. 10-17, 2013, in Fargo, N.D.
American rinks skipped by reigning U.S. national champions Allison Pottinger (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Heath McCormick (Sarnia, Ontario) are set to compete in the 2013 World Financial Group Continental Cup, presented by Monsanto. All teams for the event have now officially been confirmed.
On the heels of hosting a highly successful championship earlier this year, IceWorks Skating Complex near Philadelphia has been selected to host the 2014 USA Curling National Championships.
IceWorks Skating Complex, located in metro Philadelphia, will once again partner with the Philadelphia Sports Congress and Brandywine Visitor's Bureau to host this premier event featuring the top 20 U.S. men's and women's curling teams.
