Applications are now being accepted for USA Curling’s Project 2018 Program, aimed at identifying and developing USA’s best young talent for future competitive curling success. The Project 2018 Program is part of the 2012-13 High Performance Plan aimed at identifying and developing the USA’s best young talent for future competitive success. Subject to funding, the Program will support up to 4 junior teams (athletes eligible for the 2012-13 USA Curling Junior National Championships) and up to 8 individual athletes under the age of 27 (born on or after Jan. 1, 1985).

USA Curling High Performance Program Announcement

U.S. National Championships 2013 – High Performance Program (HPP) decision.

In keeping with the USCA’s High Performance Program goals of building toward long-term sustained competitive success, two men’s and two women’s teams from within the 2012-13 High Performance Program will receive byes into the 2013 USCA National Championships. This decision was made by USCA Director of High Performance Derek Brown after considerable discussion and feedback from a number of athletes, Athletes Advisory Council members, coaches, and USCA board members.

Both the Men’s and Women’s National Championships will have 10 spots available as follows:

• 2 High Performance Program teams

• 2 Order of Merit teams

• 6 open qualification teams

The High Performance Program teams will be confirmed in early June 2012, after the HPP advisory group has made the selections and team invitations for the 2012-13 season.

USA Curling is deeply saddened to confirm the death of 2012 U.S. Junior champion Elizabeth Busche, 19, to cancer. Elizabeth, of Duluth, Minn., represented the U.S. at the recent World Junior Championships in Sweden. She was a college student and curled this season at the Fargo-Moorhead Curling Club.

Elizabeth Marie Busche

Elizabeth was born at St. Mary’s Hospital, Duluth, MN, on September 12, 1992; died at home on May 3, 2012 after a short battle with cancer. She was a 2007 graduate of Holy Rosary School, 2011 graduate of the Marshall School, and was a freshman at North Dakota State University – Fargo.

Elizabeth was the vice skip of the 2012 Junior Women’s National Curling Championship Team and Team USA who recently participated in the 2012 Junior World Curling Championships in Ostersund, Sweden.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her grandfather James Otto in 2002.

Elizabeth is survived by her parents, Keane & Jane Busche (Duluth, MN); grandparents, Roberta Otto (Duluth), Christ & Joyce Busche (Duluth, MN); many great-aunts & uncles, many aunts & uncles, dozens of cousins, and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth’s parents created a curling charity in her memory; memorials may be directed to Elizabeth Busche Memorial Fund, c/o Duluth Curling Club, 327 Harbor Drive, Duluth, MN 55802.

RJM Licensing, Inc., has been appointed as worldwide licensing agent for USA Curling, which is the national governing body for the sport in the United States. Starting immediately, RJM will begin filling key licensed categories such as technical gear, apparel and accessories, toys, games, and apps in order to have merchandise available right before, during, and after the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. RJM also is planning to team up with a leading Russian licensing agency to ensure that USA Curling merchandise needs are looked after in Sochi.
