This certification is equivalent to Level 1 Canadian Curling Association (CCA) standards, and all participants will receive a copy of the ice technician manual used to teach the course. The instructors will be Mark Shurek and Greg Ewasko (both Level 4 CCA ice technicians).
The course will start at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, and end at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. Topics covered will include:
• Development of the game and its demands on curling ice, specific definition of curling ice, and game tactics
• Floors of a curling rink and shooting (taking) levels
• Measuring and painting lines and logos
• Ice installation (off-ice discussion and hands-on practical experience)
• Ice layout
• More practical work (measuring sheets, cutting circles, painting logos, installing lines and hacks, pebbling, scraping, sealing, etc.)
• Maintaining the ice pad, contouring ice, and overview
• Temperatures, humidity, permafrost, heaving, water and ice quality
• Control systems
• Curling stones, ice plants, and refrigeration
• Level 1 test
The course fee is $225 for participants who are members of the U.S. Curling Association. Non-member registration is $275. (Membership status of all participants will be checked upon registration. The additional $50 surcharge for non-members will be assessed prior to participation for any non-members registering at the membership rate.) A $15 late fee will be added to entries received after Sunday, November 27, 2011.
Participation is limited to 30 people (may be reduced to 25 depending upon available space). Hotel information will be provided as part of the registration process.

Green Bay to host 2013 National Championships
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - Green Bay, Wis., has been selected to host the 2013 USA Curling National Championships at the Cornerstone Community Center in partnership with the Green Bay Curling Club and Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
"We are very excited to be hosting the championships," said Don Chilson, manager of the Cornerstone Community Center and co-chair of the 2013 National Championships. "It will be a great experience for us and all our user groups to see something truly different go on in our facility. We really appreciate the opportunity that USA Curling has given us."
