Feb 19 UPDATE: Wrestle-off for 55 kg spot on Women’s World Cup team in Colorado Springs, Feb . 22

There will be a Special Wrestle-off for the final open position on the 2014 U.S. Women’s World Cup team on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The winner of the wrestle-off will compete at this weight class at the Women’s World Cup in Tokyo, Japan, March

The competition will be held in the first-floor wrestling room in SportsCenter II, starting at 10:00 a.m. This will be a single-elimination tournament, in which the pairings are set by blind draw.

So far, the following athletes have indicated that they will try out (alphabetically):
Haley Augello, Lockport, Ill. (New York AC/King Univ.)
Kelsey Campbell, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sunkist Kids)
Whitney Conder, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Army WCAP)
Katherine Fulp-Allen, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC)
Sarah Hildebrandt, Granger, Ind. (King Univ.)
Jacarra Winchester, San Leandro, Calif. (Missouri Valley College)

Campbell was a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team, and also competed in two World Championships. Conder is also a past U.S. World Team member.

Fulp-Allen is a past University World champion, while Augello was a Cadet World champion.

Other athletes may also enter.

UPDATED SCHEDULE: Skin checks will be held in the Sports Medicine Clinic at the Olympic Training Center from 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21. Weigh-ins will follow in the Wrestling Room at the Olympic Training Center at 6:00 pm on Friday. There is a 2 kg allowance so wrestlers will be weighing in at 57 kg.

The other seven weight classes for the World Cup Team were determined through approved procedures. 2013 World Team members could compete on the team if desired. Other spots were set based upon the highest placing U.S. medalist at the 2014 Dave Schultz Memorial International. The U.S. did not have a medalist at 55 kg/121 lbs. at the Dave Schultz Memorial, opening the position for a wrestle-off.
