DALLAS, TEXAS (June 30, 2008) – The 29th USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball Championships, hosted by USA Volleyball at the Dallas Convention Center, crowned four additional champions in the 12- and 13-year-old divisions on Monday as the 10-day event runs from June 26 to July 5.

St. Louis CYC 13 Green (St. Louis, Mo.) won the 13 National Division title with a 25-19, 15-25, 15-8 victory over Jammers HI 13 Black (Honolulu) in the championship match of undefeated teams. St. Louis CYC 13 Green defeated Invasion 13-Black (Blue Springs, Mo.) 16-25, 25-14, 15-13) in the quarterfinals and OVA 13 Asics (Orlando, Fla.) 25-16, 25-17 in the semifinals to advance to the gold-medal match. Jammers HI 13 Black advanced to the title match by defeating Wave 13Kry/JudSpalding (Encinitas, Calif.) 26-24, 25-21 in the semifinals and Vision 13 Gold (Los Gatos, Calif.) 23-25, 25-14, 15-9 in the quarterfinals.

St. Louis CYC 13 Blue (St. Louis, Mo.) defeated Epic 13-1 (Poway, Calif.) 26-24, 25-15 in the 13 American Division gold-medal match. St. Louis CYC 13 Blue reached the finals by defeating Texas Tornados 13 Mizuno (Houston, Texas) 25-21, 25-20 in the quarterfinals and Surfside 13-1 (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) 24-26, 25-20, 15-12 in the semifinals. Epic 13-1 downed NKYVC 13-1 Tsunami (Erlanger, Ky.) 25-13, 25-18 in the semifinals after defeating Team St. Louis 131 25-17, 25-15 (St. Charles, Mo.) in the quarterfinals.

Asics MAVs 12-1 (Overland Park, Kan.) captured the 12 National Division with a 25-17, 25-20 victory over Vision 12 Gold (Los Gatos, Calif.) in the championship match of unbeaten teams. Asics MAVs 12-1, which did not lose a single set during the tournament, advanced to the gold-medal match with a 25-20, 25-15 victory over Cincy Classics 12 Red (Liberty Township, Ohio) in the semifinals after defeating Texas Tornados 12 Mizuno (Houston, Texas) 25-16, 25-21 in the quarterfinals. Vision 12 Gold reached the title match with a 25-18, 25-20 win over Renaissance Cleveland 12 N (Stow, Ohio) in the semifinals and a 25-13, 25-27, 16-14 victory over St. Louis CYC 12 Green (St. Louis, Mo.) in the quarterfinals.

Seal Beach 12-Tony (Seal Beach, Calif.) won the 12 American Division with a 28-26, 25-9 victory over Blackswamp 12 Reinhart (Tiffin, Ohio) in the title match. Seal Beach 12-Tony, which lost just one during the tournament, reached the title match with a 25-16, 25-21 victory over Temecula 12 Ro/To (Temecula, Calif.) in the semifinals. Blackswamp 12 Reinhart advanced to the gold-medal contest after defeating Alamo 12 Kaepa (San Antonio, Texas) 30-32, 25-21, 15-5 in the semifinals.

Titles to be contest on Tuesday, July 1, are the Open, National and American Divisions for 17-year-old girls.

This year’s USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball Championships includes 9,500 athletes from 788 teams. The tournament will crown 19 champions in age divisions ranging from 12-18. Open Division titles are disputed for the 14s, 15s, 16s, 17s and 18s, while National Division and Open Division contests championships for all seven age groups.

The USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball Championships is estimated to add $15.5 million to the Dallas economy. With an anticipated total attendance of 40,000 from participants, coaches and fans, the event has set record hotel bookings. The 10-day event will be at the Dallas Convention Center and the tournament will be played in the nation’s largest column-free exhibit hall. A total of 48 volleyball courts occupy one third of the Dallas Convention, the nation’s largest column-free exhibit hall.
