VanBrakle Named Player of the Week
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Amateur Softball Association announced today its selection of Alabama's Stephanie VanBrakle as the USA Softball National Player of the Week for the week of March 6-12. Vanbrakle did not allow a run in 25 innings, posting a 0.00 ERA, helping No. 7 Alabama open up conference play with a perfect record.
VanBrakle (Chambersburg, PA.) went 4-0 on the week defeating conference opponents Florida adn South Carolina. The senior threw a no-hitter against South Carolina and allowed only four hits in 25.0 innings pitched, translating into a .049 opponent batting average. She struck out 39 batters including 15 against Florida.
"This is a great honor from a great organization. It's certainly one of the best honors a collegiate player could receive," said Alabama head coach Pat Murphy. "Stephanie threw four of the most dominating games I've ever seen her pitch. It was certainly the best four game stretch she's pitched since she's been here and we're all extremely proud of her."
VanBrakle also recorded her 900th career strikeout against South Carolina. Offensively, she hit .412 (7-17) with a home run and four RBI in the two series. She is currently on a five-game hitting streak.
"I thought I pitched really well. We faced two really good teams and to pitch as well as I did was a great accomplishment," said VanBrakle. "The whole team played extremely well and I felt confident because of it. My teammates made it possible for me to be so relaxed because when your offense scores that many runs, it really makes it easy."
This is the second-time honor as USA Softball National Player of the Week for VanBrakle.
