Jan 13 Team USA Finishes Second at 2009 Japan Open Sledge Hockey Championships

NAGANO, Japan – The U.S. Paralympics Sled Hockey National Team dropped a 5-0 decision to Canada here on Friday in the championship game of the 2009 Japan Open Sledge Hockey Championships at the Big Hat Arena. Team USA finished the tournament in second place with a 2-1-0-1 record (W-OTW-OTL-L).

Bradley Bowen opened the scoring for the Canadians at the tail-end of their first power-play opportunity at 3:18 of the first period. The 1-0 score held through the remainder of the frame, with six shots for the United States and seven for Canada.

In the second stanza, Canada widened its lead, tallying three more goals, including a pair in less than :20 in the final minute of play to gain a 4-0 advantage.

Canada's Marc Dorion closed out scoring at 1:20 of the final period to account for the 5-0 final count.

Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) made 16 saves in net for the United States, while Paul Rosen earned the shutout victory with 10 stops for Canada.

NOTES: Taylor Chace was named U.S. Player of the Game ... Canada held the 21-10 shots advantage ... Team USA was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Canada was 1-for-5 with the man advantage ... Chace led the U.S. team with four points (3-1) in four games ... The 2009 Japan Four Nations Tournament included teams from the United States, Japan, Canada and Norway ... The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will return to action at the Hockey Canada Cup, which takes place in Vancouver, B.C., from Feb. 24-March 1.
